ABSTRACT

 

This talk will review the major aspects involved in estimating the number of alien civilizations in the Galaxy╩with whom we may communicate. This talk will review the Drake equation, and the various factors that appear in it:╩their meaning, how we determine them, and the best estimate we currently have for their values, and finally estimate╩the number of alien civilizations.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

 

Dr. Lior M. Burko obtained his Ph.D. from the Technion - Israel Institute of technology in Pasadena California. He was a Postdoctoral fellow at California Institue of Technology and later at University of Utah. He then became a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Utah followed by Assistant Professorship at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Since 2005, Dr. Burko has been Assistant professor at University of Alabama in Huntsville. His major fields of research include: General Relativity, black hole and gravitational wave physics, radiation reaction.
